Large Antique Tiger Oak Fireplace Surround, Mantel Beveled Mirror Scotland 1920 F-1632

A substantial and elegant Arts & Crafts influenced fireplace surround, showcasing the bold, figured grain tiger oak – also called quartersawn – that was highly prized in Scottish interiors during the 20th century. Displaying dramatic medullary ray fleck and striped graining that catches the light.
The crowning feature is a large beveled mirror. Generous side jambs with raised fielded panels and applied geometric moldings in the restrained Arts & Crafts taste. This surround sits at the intersection of late Edwardian opulence and Arts & Crafts simplicity- less fussy than Victorian marble but grander than the plain oak surround in the 1930's.
